Ah its March already, where have the first two months of 2020 even gone? This year I promised myself I would get back on top of my health and fitness. Fun fact, I actually really enjoy going to gym. The feeling I get after smashing out a workout dripping in sweat, it's true what they say exercise makes you feel good!
NEW Gym Clothes
I think the main thing people suffer with in relation to gym's is getting the actual motivation to go! The hardest part is actually getting to the gym and I sometimes struggle with this a lot. I think to myself WOW I would much rather lie in bed watching Netflix and eat a whole packet of family size quavers (Nobody is perfect). The answer for me is NEW GYM CLOTHES. There's nothing I love more than shopping online and finding the perfect pair of gym leggings and matching sports bra. Once its arrived I'm too excited to put it on so therefore I have to go the gym so test them out! Are they sweat proof? Are the leggings too thing? NO I look good and feel comfortable. My protein is my favourite place at the moment to shop for new gym wear, the leggings are so flattering and comfortable and the sports bra's are that good its a joke! They also regularly have really good sales on the gym wear, so keep an eye out on their website.
Book a class
I have a leisure card membership which means I can go to all the council gyms in my area (if you're a student you also get a cheaper membership, BONUS). This membership means I get to go total the classes for free, no paying £6 here and there for a yoga session or a HIIT class. The best thing I did was get a monthly membership because your girl isn't made of money, so i cant afford to pay nearly £20 a month to not take advantage of the classes, activities and the gym facilities.
Swimming
Personally I love swimming. It's such good exercise as it works out every part of your body. I go on an evening to a ' adult only - lane swim'. I only roughly swim for around 45 minutes to an hour but again the buzz you feel after you realize how many lengths of the pool you actually swam. I always struggled with pain in my back since having a pneumothorax (lung collapse) in 2015 and swimming really helped with relief in my lower back, it always felt like it was getting a good stretch. I struggled with excessive exercise too, so cardio was a no go. Swimming allowed me to get in some exercise that wasn't too difficult and still made me feel good after.
Download a fitness app/Watch Youtube videos
Not all fitness apps cost money, there is so many on the apple app store that are really good! The majority of them include options to upgrade to a premium account but you don't need to do this. The Ab and Core workouts app is great, you can choose how long you want to work out for and what area you want to focus on. If you don't enjoy the gym, don't feel comfortable there or don't want to pay for a monthly membership, working out in the comfort of your own home is great!
When I first started out at the gym I didn't have a clue and the thought of using the machines terrified me. But I learnt very quickly the machines are there to help and support you with your fitness journey. Watching Youtube videos also gives you a great starting point with your fitness, there are videos for everything! All the videos are also free to watch, which is fab! Whitney Simmons is one of my favourite fitness Youtubers. Her fitness videos are so simple, useful and helpful. My favourite of hers is her Dumbell booty workout, mainly because you don't have to use a single machine, just a bench.
I hope this blog gives you some motivation and some ideas on how to improve and enjoy your fitness in 2020! Remember the only bad workout is the workout that never happened!
All my love,
